Week 2 - Mesh Mashup: Concept Generation

Remix culture refers to the creation of new products and designs from the mixing of pre-existing ones. 


1. Knife Heel

One of the first objects that I thought would be good to combine something with was a shoe. I found this heel and decided that I should add something onto the back in the place of the heel. 

2. Mushmug

I got this idea when I glanced at a few items that I keep on my desk. I have a small mushroom figure and a cup of coffee, and I thought that they would make an interesting combination.

3. Lamppost bench

For this one I wanted to try and make something more practical. I was seeing a lot of different light fixtures on thingiverse and it made me wonder why don't they put lights on benches so people can see better.

2. Skull handing hands

I came across this skull and it immediately made me think of Hamet, the scene where he holds a skull in his hand. So I thought that I would switch it around and make a skull holding hands.

5. Eye lamp

I was looking at the lamp that sits by my desk and thought that the lightbulb reminds me off an eye. And to add to it I decided to give it eyelashes like some people do to their cars.

6. Balloon castle

For this one I wanted to make something that could fly or float. So I decided that I was going to attach something to the bottom of a hot air balloon. Looking back I think this one could have been improved by adding the pointy tower part on the top of the balloon with a flag.

7. Racket mixer

For this one I decided to utilize the fact that I can switch out parts for designs that you have to put together separately. I found the mixer design and thought it would make an interesting combination if I added a tennis racket to it. 

8. Pizza player

I have a record player in my room so I immediately decided that I would need to make a design where I switch out a record for something else circular. 

9. Ladle whale

I knew from the beginning that I would want to make a design involving something popping out of water in some sort of container. I thought that using a ladle would be unique, and that its height would compliment that size of the whale tail.

10. Tooth brush

My immediate reaction to this assignment was just to give objects teeth. I tried many other designs involving this, but the hairbrush was my favorite.

 Week 9 + 10: Papercraft Objects - Final Revision Over a period of 2 weeks we are to finalize the design and create the final for our chosen papercraft object. I started off with adding and revising a few details: Cut and rotated the sides of the car to create doors Got rid of the fuel source on the back Made the top part a flat surface Added chairs, middle compartment, back wall with flux capacitor box attached, a wheel, headlights and taillights, and license plate Updated Folded Design: Renders: Printing Template: Here I added the few tabs that were missing from the previous design. Final: I had a lot more trouble putting this design together than the previous one for the prototype. If I were to redo it I would enlarge a few pieces. And I would also use multiple layers of cardstock on the body of the car to make it more sturdy since the final product is a little wonky. Week 6: Papercraft Objects - Digital Samples

 Week 6: Papercraft Objects - Digital Samples For this weeks assignment I created 10 faceted and unfolded forms in Rhino. Form #1: Square face attached to twisted square face with triangles. Form #2: Polygon attached to twisted polygon with triangles.  Form #3: Polygon attached to smaller polygon with thin triangles. Form #4: Polygon attached to long rectangle with triangles. Form #5: Long polygon with a pyramid attached at either side.  Form #6: Long polygon with a point on the end to look like a pencil. Form #7: Polygon attached to a larger polygon that is then mirrored on the other side.  Form #8: Two polygons with a shared side and is closed with triangles. Form #9: Square attached to smaller square that is then duplicated and mirrored on the other side to make an hourglass shape. Form #10: Long rectangle attached to other long twisted rectangle with triangles.

Week 11: 3D Printed Hollow Form Object - The Hybrid

 Week 11: 3D Printed Hollow Form Object - The Hybrid For this project we were to generate our own ideas for making a hollow object or vessel and then combine our concepts with a partner. Both partners design elements should be included but they can be revised in order for the 2 concepts to fit together better. Here are the concepts made: My partner Melanie's concepts:   My sketches for the hybrid: Practice Hybrids: Final Design: In the end we decided to use the "legs" that Melanie made and duplicate them so they would seamlessly connect to the star shaped vessel that I made. I really like how the design turned out. When we got into Prusa slicer we ran into a few problems. In the original design it connects perfectly and is self supporting without any gaps. When sliced the design generated a new base underneath that was not there prior to slicing it and gaps and cuts were made in the middle. We are unsure of how to get rid of this.
