Week 9 + 10: Papercraft Objects - Final Revision

Week 9 + 10: Papercraft Objects - Final Revision Over a period of 2 weeks we are to finalize the design and create the final for our chosen papercraft object. I started off with adding and revising a few details: Cut and rotated the sides of the car to create doors Got rid of the fuel source on the back Made the top part a flat surface Added chairs, middle compartment, back wall with flux capacitor box attached, a wheel, headlights and taillights, and license plate Updated Folded Design: Renders: Printing Template: Here I added the few tabs that were missing from the previous design. Final: I had a lot more trouble putting this design together than the previous one for the prototype. If I were to redo it I would enlarge a few pieces. And I would also use multiple layers of cardstock on the body of the car to make it more sturdy since the final product is a little wonky. I am happy with how well it is all staying together since I used different glue.  Towards the end I decided...

Week 8: Papercraft Objects - First Prototype

Week 8: Papercraft Objects - First Prototype I started off this week by going back into Rhino and enlarging a few of the tabs that were too small to but the piece together. I also deleted a few unnecessary lines and then reprinted them. Pieces cut out: Final product: As I was putting it together the pieces would not stay glue together for long, I eventually opted to use a glue gun which I found to be very useful. I really recommend doing this because it holds it together very will and is more clean and precise than a glue stick.  In the end I decided to omit the power source on the back of the car, since it was too small and complicated. In my final I was thinking that I could make up for cutting it out by adding other details. I hope to add a small rectangle on the back for the license plate, and paint/draw on other details. I also realized when I was putting it together that I forgot to add a tab to the long side of the rectangles (on the bottom that the wheels are connecte...

Week 7: Papercraft Objects - Printed templates

Week 7: Papercraft Objects - Printed Templates The significant object I have chosen to make for this project is the flying DeLorean from back to the future. This object is important to me because growing up my dad introduced me to a bunch of '80s movies and we would watch them all the time and still do.  I had a lot of time on my hands this week to work on this project so I tried to make my design very accurate but still simplified. It still came out a bit more complicated than I had planned. This is very noticeable on the sides of the car where I had to make a bunch of triangles in order for them to be formed into planar surfaces.  Folded Design: Unfolded Design: 2D Prints: (since the dashed lines were so spaced out I decided to omit them from the smaller pieces) Revisions for next time: Now that I have my design printed I noticed that a few of the tabs could have been a lot larger but overall they will work fine for now. There are a few unnecessary polylines that I for...
